What is a slime fun run?

A slime colour run is usually a fundraiser hosted by schools, sports groups, churches or corporations to support a  worthy causes. Participants pay to compete or try to raise money from sponsors to brave the long distance event. The size of the circuit can vary depending on the age of the competitors. Slime makes a regular fun run a lot more fun! Instant slime can be sprayed at participants as they run around the course or it can be added to crawl pits and pools to make slippery, sloppy obstacles. If you have been in a colour powder run, then the set up for slime blaster stations is very similar but instead of participants being sprinkled in colorful powder, they are blasted with super colourful slime. We encourage everyone to wear white shirts because at the end of the race they will look like a rainbow of gooey colours.

How much slime is needed for a fun run?

Each bag of instant slime powder makes a lot of slime, so slime blaster stations are a nice, budget friendly option, guaranteed to generate a lot of buzz and be a worthwhile investment. If your whole fun run theme is SLIME then we would advise to have at least 4 slime stations spread around the course. This is often done with a different colour slime at each point. Slime is also an excellent addition to your traditional colour powder run as the two work very well together. If you put a slime station before a colour powder station then the slime will wet the participants in a sloppy goo, and then the colour powder will stick to the slime instead of the usual light dusting at events without it. This will ensure that all your photos are going to be incredibly colorful!

We have put together some simple slime calculations below to help you decide how much slime you may want for your event. It is entirely up to you how slimy you want to make your participants!

The water blasters in this kit hold around 250ml of slime. If you want each runner to be sprayed at least once or twice at each of the 4 slime blaster stations, then you will want around 1L to 2L of slime per participant. There are 2 x Slime Battle Packs in this kit (Each pack make 160L of slime). If required, additional slime battle packages can be purchased to refill the tubs and blasters in this pack - Buy additional slime here

For a school of 200 kids we would suggest 2 to 3 slime battle packs.

For a school of 500 kids we would suggest 4 to 6 slime battle packs.

For a school of 1,000 kids we would suggest 8 to 12 slime battle packs.

For a school of only 100 kids or less 1 slime battle pack would probably suffice.

Slime Fun Run Safety

As mentioned above our instant slime is non toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly. There are however a few safety tips to consider when planning a slime colour run.

  • Having the participants wear sunglasses is a good idea for sun protection and slime protection. If a participant gets slime in their eyes rinse them with fresh water. Advise the slimers before the race to not aim their slime blasters at the face of competitors.
  • Slime (like mud in a mud run) does get slippery. Advise the fun run runners before the race to expect it to be slippery. We suggest that slime stations be set up on a STRAIGHT section of the track. It is easier for participants to slip over if running on a curve. Setting up on a soft grass section is also a good idea.
  • To avoid the slime all piling up in the one area we advise that as the days goes on it you might want to carry your buckets a few meters to a new section of the track. The thicker the slime the more slippery it will become. After the race, this will also help the slime to either evaporate with the sun or wash into the soil with rain. Sand or dirt can also be sprinkled over the slime to help reduce the slipperiness.
  • If you have excess slime when the fun is over and done, an easy way to get rid of it safely is top pour it into garden beds and areas away from regular foot traffic. Built up areas of slime can be hosed into the grass or spread out with a broom. If slime is really thick on the ground, like if the bucket has been spilt, you may be best to scoop it up and dispose of it. Roping off an exclusion zone around the slimy areas is the best way to prevent slippages. The slime should evaporate and break down within a few days.
